PlacePing Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026. This policy covers the Android app PlacePing: Location Reminder (package software.basilbase.placeping), published on Google Play by BasilBase. Contact: contact@basilbase.com.
Data the app accesses
Location (precise and background). PlacePing accesses your device location, including in the background when the app is closed, for one purpose only: so that Android’s geofencing service can tell the app when you arrive at or leave a place you saved, and show your reminder. Location is processed on your device. PlacePing does not send your location to us or to anyone else, does not keep a location history, and does not pass your location to the advertising SDK.
Places and reminders you create. The place names, positions and reminder texts you save are stored only on your device.
Notifications. Used to show your reminders. No notification content leaves the device.
Data collected by the advertising SDK
Since version 1.2.0 PlacePing shows a small banner ad served by Google AdMob. To serve, measure and protect ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares with Google: the advertising ID and other device identifiers, approximate location derived from your IP address (not from PlacePing’s location access), interactions with the ad and the app, and crash and diagnostic data about the ad. Google processes this under its own policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, PlacePing asks for your consent through Google’s consent form. You can change that choice at any time in Settings → Ad privacy settings, and you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings.
How we use and share data
BasilBase runs no server for PlacePing and has no account system, so we do not receive, sell or share any personal data from the app. The only data that leaves your device is the advertising SDK data described above, which goes to Google. If you email us feedback, your own email app sends the message and we use it only to reply.
How your data is handled and protected
Your location is used in memory and by Android’s geofencing service on the device; it is not written to any log or history and is never transmitted by PlacePing.
Saved places and reminders are kept in the app’s private storage, which Android isolates from other apps. They are not uploaded or synced anywhere.
The advertising SDK communicates with Google over encrypted HTTPS connections.
We keep no copy of your data. Deleting a place removes it immediately, and uninstalling PlacePing or clearing its storage deletes all of its data from your device.
Your choices
You can deny or revoke location, background location and notification permissions at any time in Android settings; reminders stop working without location, but nothing else is affected. You can change your ad consent in Settings → Ad privacy settings.
Children
PlacePing is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
