Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Our apps

Wear OS watch faces

BasilBase publishes watch faces for Wear OS on Google Play. This section describes how all of them handle data.

We collect nothing. These watch faces contain no executable code. They are published in Google’s Watch Face Format, which means the app is a set of drawings and layout rules that the Wear OS system renders on your watch. There is no code in the package that could gather, store or transmit anything.

What appears on the watch face. To draw a watch face, the Wear OS system supplies it with values already present on your device: the time and date, your watch’s battery level, your step count, your heart rate, and — where your watch provides them — the current weather condition and temperature. These values are drawn on your screen and nothing more. They are not read by us, not written anywhere, and not sent off the watch.

No network, no advertising, no analytics. The apps request no permissions, make no network connections, contain no advertising and contain no analytics or tracking of any kind.

No data shared with third parties. Because nothing is collected, nothing is shared, sold or transferred.

Purchases. Watch faces are sold as a one-time purchase through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google; we never see your payment details. What we receive from Google is aggregate sales reporting.

Children. The apps are suitable for all ages and collect no data from anyone, including children.

Retention and deletion. As no data is collected, there is nothing retained and nothing to delete. Uninstalling a watch face removes it completely.

Wear OS apps

BasilBase also publishes ordinary Wear OS apps, currently Ticker Data, which shows cryptocurrency prices on your watch and supplies them to watch faces as complications. Unlike our watch faces, these are real applications with code, and they do use the network — so this section is separate, and more detailed.

We collect nothing. There is no account, no sign-up and no login. The apps contain no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no tracking software of any kind. We do not receive, see or store any information about you. We cannot identify you, and we hold no database in which you could appear.

What stays on your watch. Ticker Data saves your own settings in Android’s standard app storage on the watch: the assets you have chosen to follow (your watchlist), which asset each watch face complication is showing, your price-colour preference, and the most recent prices it fetched, so a watch face can show a number immediately instead of waiting for the network. This data never leaves your watch, is never backed up to us, and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

Network requests, and what third parties see. To show a price, the app has to ask for one. It sends requests over HTTPS to public market data endpoints: Binance (api.binance.com), and CoinGecko (api.coingecko.com) when Binance is unavailable. Their own policies are at binance.com/en/privacy and coingecko.com/en/privacy. These requests contain the asset symbols you are following and nothing else — no name, no account, no advertising identifier and no device identifier. Like any request from any app, browser or device, they do reach those services from your network address, which means those services can see that a request was made and from where. That is a property of connecting to the internet rather than something the app adds, and we receive none of it. Requests are made when you open a screen in the app, and on a schedule of roughly every fifteen minutes while a watch face complication is in use. No API keys, no accounts and no personal data are involved in any request.

Permissions. The app requests only what it needs to fetch data and to schedule that fetch: internet access, network state, and the standard permissions Android’s own WorkManager library uses to run background work. It does not request location, sensors, contacts, microphone, camera or storage.

Price. Ticker Data is free. There is no purchase, no subscription and no in-app payment of any kind, so there is nothing for us to see even in aggregate.

Children. These apps are not directed at children and are not designed for them.

Android apps

DCA Calculator & Compound (com.stackdca.app) is a free Android app supported by ads. Unlike our watch faces it is a real application that uses the network, shows advertising and can send notifications, so this section explains exactly what happens.

No account. There is no sign-up and no login. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.

What stays on your phone. Your calculations, saved scenarios, DCA plans and their purchase history, and your settings (language, theme) are stored only on your device. They are never sent to us and are deleted when you uninstall the app.

Market data. To calculate historical results the app requests public price and exchange-rate data over HTTPS from Yahoo Finance (query1/query2.finance.yahoo.com), CoinGecko (api.coingecko.com) and Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev). These requests contain only the asset symbol and date range you chose. Like any internet request they reach those services from your network address.

Advertising (Google AdMob). The app shows a banner ad provided by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares with Google: your device’s advertising ID and other device identifiers, approximate location derived from your IP address, how you interact with the ads and the app, and crash and diagnostic data. Google uses this for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the app asks for your consent before any personalised ads are shown. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your phone’s settings (Google → Ads, or Privacy → Ads). How Google uses this data: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Notifications (OneSignal). Push notifications are delivered through OneSignal, which receives a device identifier (push token) and basic device information so it can deliver messages. Location sharing with OneSignal is turned off. Plan reminders you set yourself are scheduled on the device and do not use OneSignal. OneSignal’s policy: onesignal.com/privacy_policy.

Data we receive. We do not run a server for this app and do not receive your personal data. We see only aggregate reports from Google Play, AdMob and OneSignal, such as install counts or ad earnings.

Security. All network traffic from the app is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).

Children. The app is not directed at children under 13.

Deletion. Uninstalling the app deletes everything stored on your device. Data collected by Google AdMob or OneSignal is handled under their policies; you can reset your advertising ID as described above, or write to us and we will help.

How our Android apps handle and protect your data

This section applies to every Android app published by basilbase under the package name software.basilbase.*, including all the apps listed below. Each app’s own section adds what is specific to it.

What we collect. Nothing. The apps have no account, no sign-up and no server of ours. What you create or set in an app (for example timers, rules, notes, lists, recordings or settings) is stored on your phone and is never sent to us. We cannot see it, and we hold no database in which you could appear.

How it is protected. App data is kept in the app’s private storage, which Android’s app sandbox shuts off from other apps. Apps that hold sensitive content add their own protection, described in their section (for example an encrypted database, or exclusion from cloud backup). Content an app reads to do its job, such as notification text, speech, location or your screen, is processed on the phone and is never passed to the advertising SDK. Where an app shows ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK talks to Google over an encrypted connection (HTTPS); the apps make no other network connections of their own unless their section says so.

Who data is shared with. We do not sell, rent or share your data. Where an app shows a banner ad, Google, as the ad provider, collects the data described in that app’s “Advertising (Google AdMob)” paragraph under Google’s own policy. We receive only aggregate reports from Google Play and AdMob, such as install counts or ad earnings, never data about you.

How long it is kept. Data stays on your phone until you delete it in the app, clear the app’s storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app; uninstalling removes it from the phone. If an app allows Android’s own backup, a copy may also be kept in your Google account backup, managed by Google; each app’s section says whether it does. Files you export yourself stay wherever you save or send them.

Your choices and deletion requests. You can delete your data at any time in the app or in Android settings, withdraw permissions in Android settings, change your ad consent in the app where it applies, and reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings (Google → Ads, or Privacy → Ads). Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete on our side; if you have a question or need help removing data, write to contact@basilbase.com and we will answer.

DoSay: Offline Voice Assistant

DoSay (software.basilbase.dosay) turns what you say into text on your phone and carries out the command there. Every command works offline. Since version 1.3.0 DoSay is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that uses the internet. There is no account.

Your voice and commands. The microphone is used only while the DoSay card is on screen and says Listening. Audio is processed in memory and discarded; it is never saved or sent anywhere. Speech recognition language packs (Vosk models) are delivered by Google Play through Play Asset Delivery; after a pack is installed, recognition works in airplane mode. DoSay never sends what you say, your contacts, notes, lists, reminders or notifications anywhere, and passes none of it to the ad SDK.

What stays on your phone. Notes and lists, reminders, the names and apps you link, shortcuts, and command history if you turn it on (off by default; text only, never audio). Android backup is off for DoSay. Settings → Delete all DoSay data removes everything at once; uninstalling the app does too.

Permissions. Microphone (only while listening), contacts (to find who to call), phone (to place a call after a cancellable countdown), notifications and exact alarms (reminders), Do Not Disturb access and modify system settings (only when you ask for silent mode or brightness), set alarm (hands alarms to your Clock app). Play Asset Delivery adds foreground-service, wake-lock and network-state permissions to download language packs. The Google Mobile Ads SDK adds INTERNET, AD_ID and Android’s ACCESS_ADSERVICES_* permissions for the banner; DoSay’s own code does not use them. Notification access and the assistant role are optional and can be withdrawn in Android settings.

Advertising (Google AdMob). The banner is shown at the bottom of DoSay’s screens, not on the listening card and not during first-run setup. To serve, measure and protect ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares with Google: the advertising ID and other device identifiers, approximate location derived from the IP address, interactions with the ad and the app, and crash and diagnostic data. Google uses this for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland DoSay asks for consent through Google’s consent form, and Settings → Ad privacy lets you change it at any time. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings (Google → Ads, or Privacy → Ads).

Other apps. Alarms and timers are handed to your Clock app, calls to your phone app; if you choose another speech app as a fallback (off by default), that app may use the internet under its own policy.

Security, retention and deletion. DoSay’s data is stored only in its private storage on your phone, protected by Android’s app sandbox, and is never sent to us. It stays until you delete it in the app, clear the app’s storage or uninstall DoSay. Android backup is turned off for DoSay, so its data is not copied to your Google account backup. Children. DoSay is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We collect no data from anyone; the ad SDK’s collection is described above.

SayIt: Notification Reader

SayIt (software.basilbase.sayit) reads your notifications aloud with the text-to-speech voice already on your phone. Since version 1.3.0 SayIt is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that uses the internet. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your notifications. SayIt uses Android’s notification access only to read notifications aloud. Their content is processed on the phone and is never uploaded, shared or passed to the ad SDK. The optional notification history and all settings are stored privately on the phone, are left out of cloud backups, and can be cleared or switched off at any time.

Advertising (Google AdMob). To serve, measure and protect ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares with Google the advertising ID and other device identifiers, approximate location derived from the IP address, interactions with the ad and the app, and crash and diagnostic data about the ad. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, SayIt asks for consent through Google’s consent form, and Privacy → Ad privacy settings lets you change that choice at any time. TouchOff: Screen Touch Lock

TouchOff (software.basilbase.touchoff) blocks accidental touches with a floating lock button over other apps. The lock itself never uses the internet. Since version 1.2.0 TouchOff is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that goes online. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your screen and settings. TouchOff uses the “display over other apps” permission only to draw the lock button and the transparent touch-blocking layer. It never reads, records or screenshots what is on your screen, and nothing on it is passed to the ad SDK. Your settings are stored in the app’s private storage on the phone. If you send feedback, your own email app sends it.

SayTape: Recorder & Transcribe

SayTape (software.basilbase.saytape) records audio and turns speech into text on your phone. Speech models are downloaded once through Google Play; after that, recording and transcription work offline. Since version 1.3.0 SayTape is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that goes online. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your recordings. The microphone is used only while you record. Audio, transcripts, edits, bookmarks and speaker names are stored on the phone, in the folder you choose. SayTape never uploads them and never passes them to the ad SDK. A backup file is written only where you choose to save it. If you send feedback, your own email app sends it.

AppBright: Brightness per App

AppBright (software.basilbase.appbright) sets a screen brightness per app and restores your previous setting when you leave. AppBright’s own code never uses the internet. Since version 1.2.0 AppBright is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that goes online. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your usage and rules. Usage access is used only on the phone, to tell which app is on screen and apply your rule. AppBright never records, shares or uploads your usage history and never passes it to the ad SDK. Your rules and settings are stored on the phone and are excluded from cloud backup. If you send feedback, your own email app sends it.

LaterBell: Batch Notifications

LaterBell (software.basilbase.laterbell) holds notifications from the apps you pick and brings them back at the times you pick. LaterBell’s own code never uses the internet. Since version 1.2.0 LaterBell is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that goes online. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your notifications. LaterBell uses Android’s notification access to read the app a notification came from, its title, its text and its channel, only to decide whether it can wait and to show you what is waiting. Notification content is never sent, uploaded or stored off the phone, and is never passed to the ad SDK. What is waiting is deleted the moment it is delivered; there is no history. If you send feedback, your own email app sends it.

Advertising (Google AdMob). LoudSet: Volume When Apps Open

LoudSet (software.basilbase.loudset) sets a volume per app and restores the previous level when you leave. LoudSet’s own code never uses the internet. Since version 1.2.0 LoudSet is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that goes online. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your usage and rules. Usage access is used only on the phone, only while monitoring runs, to notice which app comes to the front; LoudSet reads the last few seconds of app-open and app-close events and keeps no history. Nothing of it is passed to the ad SDK. Rules and settings are stored on the phone and are left out of backups. If you send feedback, your own email app sends it.

Advertising (Google AdMob). ModeFlip: Auto Silent & Modes

ModeFlip (software.basilbase.modeflip) switches phone settings by mode and restores what it changed. ModeFlip’s own code never uses the internet. Since version 1.2.0 ModeFlip is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that goes online. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your modes. Modes, selected device and network names, calendar matches and recovery checkpoints stay on the phone and are never passed to the ad SDK. Calendar event titles are read locally and not stored as history. Exports are files you control. If you send feedback, your own email app sends it.

PayDodge: Paid Break Timer

PayDodge (software.basilbase.paydodge) shows what your breaks at work are worth. PayDodge’s own code never uses the internet. Since version 1.3.0 PayDodge is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that goes online. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your pay and breaks. Your salary, hours, breaks, labels and history are stored on the phone only, are excluded from phone backups, and are never passed to the ad SDK. The optional app lock uses Android’s fingerprint, face or screen lock; the app never sees biometric data. A backup is only a file you export yourself. About → Delete all data removes everything. If you send feedback, your own email app sends it.

PlacePing: Location Reminder

PlacePing (software.basilbase.placeping) shows a reminder when you arrive at or leave a place you saved. PlacePing’s own code never uses the internet. Since version 1.2.0 PlacePing is free with a small banner ad from Google AdMob; that banner is the only part of the app that goes online. There is no server of ours and no account.

Your location and places. PlacePing uses precise and background location only so that the phone’s own geofencing service can tell it when you arrive or leave, even when the app is closed. Location is used on the device; it is never sent anywhere, no location history is kept, and it is never passed to the ad SDK. Saved places and reminders stay on the phone. If you send feedback, your own email app sends it.

WageTick: Live Hourly Pay

WageTick (software.basilbase.wagetick) counts what you earn while you work, from the hourly rate you enter, between your own Start and Stop. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere. There is no server of ours and no account, and there is no analytics, advertising or crash reporting.

Your data. Your jobs (name, hourly rate, currency), the running session, the history of finished sessions (times, breaks, amounts, edits) and your settings are stored on the phone only. Export CSV and Save a backup file write a file only to the place you pick in Android’s file picker; that file is not encrypted and is then under your control. Restore reads only the file you pick. The optional widget and Quick Settings tile show the job, time and amount to anyone who can see your screen.

Permissions. Notifications, only if you turn on Show in notification, to show the running time and amount (the lock screen shows only that WageTick is counting); run at startup, to put that notification back after a restart if a session was still running. WageTick asks for no location, contacts, storage, microphone or camera access.

Security. Everything is stored in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s app sandbox so other apps cannot read it. It is not additionally encrypted by the app. We never receive your data.

Retention and deletion. Data is kept until you delete it: single sessions in History, everything in Settings → Delete all data, or by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling. SayWhen: Spoken Routines

SayWhen (software.basilbase.saywhen) speaks the reminders, countdowns, checklists, the time and a morning briefing you set up, at the times you choose, using the text-to-speech engine on your phone. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere. There is no server of ours and no account, and there is no analytics, advertising or crash reporting.

Your data. Your routines, settings, birthdays you enter yourself and a delivery history (up to 1,024 entries of when each announcement was due and what happened) are stored on the phone only. If you switch them on, contact names with birthday dates and today’s calendar events are read when needed, spoken or shown, and held in memory only; they are never stored. The text being spoken is handed to the speech engine you selected in Android settings, which is a separate app with its own policy; SayWhen uses only voices the engine reports as offline. A backup file you make goes only where you choose in Android’s file picker and is not encrypted.

Permissions. Alarms & reminders, to speak at the exact minute you set; notifications, for the Stop button while speaking and the checklist notice; contacts and calendar, only after you switch on birthdays or the calendar briefing; a media-playback foreground service and a short wake lock, so speech is not cut off with the screen off; run at startup, to set alarms again after a restart or update. SayWhen does not use the microphone or location.

Retention and deletion. Data is kept until you delete it in the app (a routine, a birthday, or Backup & restore → Delete all app data), clear the app’s storage or uninstall; the oldest history entries are removed automatically. VoxMend: Voice Typing Fix

VoxMend (software.basilbase.voxmend) recognises speech on your phone and lets you correct the text before you copy, share or send it. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere itself. Speech models are delivered by Google Play (Play Asset Delivery); Google handles device technical metadata for that delivery under its own policy, and those requests contain no speech or text. There is no server of ours and no account, and there is no analytics, advertising or crash reporting.

Your data. Saved texts (deleted automatically after the time you set, by default 24 hours), your word replacements, a short code of the last error (never what was said) and your settings are stored on the phone only. Sound is never recorded to a file; it is held in memory while being recognised. Text from password and private fields is not kept. Text leaves the app only through an action you choose: copy, share, export to a file you pick, the optional voice keyboard, or the optional speech recogniser for other apps; the receiving app handles it under its own policy.

Permissions. Microphone, only while you dictate after tapping the microphone. Google’s Play Asset Delivery library adds a data-sync foreground service, wake lock and run-at-startup permission so a speech-model download can finish and resume after a restart; VoxMend’s own code never listens in the background or at startup.

RoamSpool: Location History

RoamSpool (software.basilbase.roamspool) is a personal location diary: while you have recording switched on, it saves your phone’s location and turns it into stops, journeys and gaps. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere; it shows no map and looks up no addresses. Positions come from Android’s fused location provider in Google Play services, which works under your phone’s location settings and Google’s terms. There is no server of ours and no account, and there is no analytics, advertising or crash reporting.

Your data. Saved locations (time, coordinates, accuracy), stops, places you name, notes, recording start/stop events, records of imported files, links to photos you pick for a stop and your settings are stored on the phone only. Nothing is collected while recording is paused or stopped. Photos are picked with the system photo picker and are not copied. Exports (GPX, CSV, JSON) go only where you choose and are not encrypted; places you mark private are left out of exports.

Permissions. Precise and approximate location, to record while recording is on (RoamSpool does not request “Allow all the time”); a location foreground service with a visible notification and Pause/Stop; notifications, for that notice; run at startup, only to tell you that recording stopped at a restart. It never switches recording on by itself.

Security. Everything is stored in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s app sandbox so other apps cannot read it. The database is not additionally encrypted by the app. Backup files you make are encrypted with a password you choose (AES-256-GCM, key from PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256); the password is not stored, so a lost password cannot be recovered. FolioTether: Receipt Wallet

FolioTether (software.basilbase.foliotether) keeps your receipts, invoices, warranty cards and manuals with the items they belong to, and reminds you of return and warranty dates you confirm. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere. Text on pages is read on the phone by a recognition engine bundled in the app or from the PDF’s own text. There is no server of ours and no account, and there is no analytics, advertising or crash reporting.

Your data. Private copies of the files you add, the text read from them, document details, items (name, brand, model, serial number, location, notes), confirmed dates and reminders, records of imports, exports and backups, the in-app trash and your settings are stored on the phone only. Data leaves the phone only when you share files, export, save a backup file or send a feedback e-mail yourself. PDF passwords are used once and not stored.

Permissions. Notifications, for reminders you save; run at startup, to plan reminders again after a restart; biometrics, for the optional app lock (FolioTether never receives fingerprint or face data); a wake lock added by Android’s WorkManager so a batch of page reading can finish. Photos and files are added through the system pickers, the camera app or sharing, without storage or camera permission.

Security. Everything is stored in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s app sandbox so other apps cannot read it. The stored documents are not additionally encrypted by the app; the optional app lock controls who opens the app and is not file encryption. LinkRudder: Open Links

LinkRudder (software.basilbase.linkrudder) lets you choose which app opens each web link and shows what will change in a link before it opens. It uses the internet for one thing only: when you press Resolve short link and confirm, it asks that short link’s own server where the link leads. Everything else happens on the phone. There is no server of ours and no account, and there is no analytics, advertising or crash reporting.

Your data. Your rules, the default choice, clean-up switches, pinned apps, home-screen shortcuts and settings are stored on the phone only. History is off by default; if you switch it on, it keeps only the site name (never the full link) for 1–30 days. When you resolve a short link, that link’s server sees your IP address and the link, as with any web request; no cookies or identifiers are sent and the result is not stored. The clipboard is read only when you press Open copied link or Paste. A backup file you save is plain JSON and holds no history or links.

Permissions. Internet, only for Resolve short link. Optionally the default-browser role, if you choose it, so links you tap reach LinkRudder. It can see only apps that open web links, not your other apps.

Security. Everything is stored in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s app sandbox so other apps cannot read it. It is not additionally encrypted by the app. Short-link requests go only to https servers, so they are encrypted in transit, and never to private or local network addresses.
