Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Our apps

Wear OS watch faces

BasilBase publishes watch faces for Wear OS on Google Play. This section describes how all of them handle data.

We collect nothing. These watch faces contain no executable code. They are published in Google’s Watch Face Format, which means the app is a set of drawings and layout rules that the Wear OS system renders on your watch. There is no code in the package that could gather, store or transmit anything.

What appears on the watch face. To draw a watch face, the Wear OS system supplies it with values already present on your device: the time and date, your watch’s battery level, your step count, your heart rate, and — where your watch provides them — the current weather condition and temperature. These values are drawn on your screen and nothing more. They are not read by us, not written anywhere, and not sent off the watch.

No network, no advertising, no analytics. The apps request no permissions, make no network connections, contain no advertising and contain no analytics or tracking of any kind.

No data shared with third parties. Because nothing is collected, nothing is shared, sold or transferred.

Purchases. Watch faces are sold as a one-time purchase through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google; we never see your payment details. What we receive from Google is aggregate sales reporting.

Children. The apps are suitable for all ages and collect no data from anyone, including children.

Retention and deletion. As no data is collected, there is nothing retained and nothing to delete. Uninstalling a watch face removes it completely.

Wear OS apps

BasilBase also publishes ordinary Wear OS apps, currently Ticker Data, which shows cryptocurrency prices on your watch and supplies them to watch faces as complications. Unlike our watch faces, these are real applications with code, and they do use the network — so this section is separate, and more detailed.

We collect nothing. There is no account, no sign-up and no login. The apps contain no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no tracking software of any kind. We do not receive, see or store any information about you. We cannot identify you, and we hold no database in which you could appear.

What stays on your watch. Ticker Data saves your own settings in Android’s standard app storage on the watch: the assets you have chosen to follow (your watchlist), which asset each watch face complication is showing, your price-colour preference, and the most recent prices it fetched, so a watch face can show a number immediately instead of waiting for the network. This data never leaves your watch, is never backed up to us, and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

Network requests, and what third parties see. To show a price, the app has to ask for one. It sends requests over HTTPS to public market data endpoints: Binance (api.binance.com), and CoinGecko (api.coingecko.com) when Binance is unavailable. Their own policies are at binance.com/en/privacy and coingecko.com/en/privacy. These requests contain the asset symbols you are following and nothing else — no name, no account, no advertising identifier and no device identifier. Like any request from any app, browser or device, they do reach those services from your network address, which means those services can see that a request was made and from where. That is a property of connecting to the internet rather than something the app adds, and we receive none of it. Requests are made when you open a screen in the app, and on a schedule of roughly every fifteen minutes while a watch face complication is in use. No API keys, no accounts and no personal data are involved in any request.

Permissions. The app requests only what it needs to fetch data and to schedule that fetch: internet access, network state, and the standard permissions Android’s own WorkManager library uses to run background work. It does not request location, sensors, contacts, microphone, camera or storage.

Price. Ticker Data is free. There is no purchase, no subscription and no in-app payment of any kind, so there is nothing for us to see even in aggregate.

Children. These apps are not directed at children and are not designed for them.
