Notification Read Aloud

Your phone reads incoming notifications out loud — even with the screen locked. You decide which apps may speak, how much they are allowed to say, and when they must stay quiet.

Personal use, one device

There are moments when looking at your phone is not an option — driving, cooking, carrying something in both hands, or simply lying in the dark not wanting a bright screen in your face. Notification Read Aloud covers those moments: your phone tells you what arrived, and you decide whether it is worth reaching for.

Control, not chatter

An app that reads out every notification becomes unbearable within an hour. This one is built around the switches that stop that happening: which apps are allowed to speak, whether only certain people or keywords get through, what hours are off limits, and how much of the message is actually spoken when someone else might be listening.

By default it only speaks when the screen is off, so it never interrupts you while you are already looking at the phone.

It reads messages the way a person would

Attachments are recognised and described rather than skipped, so a photo becomes “sent a photo” instead of silence. One-time codes are read digit by digit. Long messages are trimmed instead of droning on. And whatever is playing gets quieter for a moment rather than fighting with the voice.

It reads your notifications to you, and only to you

This is not a monitoring tool and it cannot be used as one. It reads the notifications arriving on the device it is installed on, out loud, to whoever is holding that device — it is an accessibility and hands-free convenience, not a way to watch somebody else’s phone.

Nothing is transmitted. The app has no account, no server and no analytics; notification text is spoken and then discarded. Your settings and filters stay in the app’s own storage on the phone, and the only way anything leaves the device is if you export your settings to a file yourself.

Light on the battery, by design

Nothing runs in a loop. Android wakes the app when a notification arrives and it goes back to sleep immediately afterwards; the speech engine is built when it is first needed and released again once it has been idle. Keeping the phone awake happens only for the seconds a sentence is being spoken.

What it does

Speaks every notification Messages
calls and alerts from any app are read aloud through the speaker or your headphones
with the screen off and the phone in your pocket.
Per-app control A searchable list of everything installed
with a switch on each one and enable-all / disable-all buttons. Only the apps you pick ever speak.
Three privacy levels Read everything
hide the message and announce only who it is from
or announce nothing but the app name. Useful when other people are in the room.
Quiet hours Set a window — including one that crosses midnight — where nothing is spoken at all.
Priority contacts Nominate the people who get through anyway
even during quiet hours.
Word and person filters A whitelist so only matching notifications are read
and a blacklist that always wins. Because most apps put the sender in the title
adding a name is enough to hear only that person.
Understands attachments Recognises photos
videos
voice messages
locations
documents
stickers
contact cards
polls and missed calls
and says “Daniel sent a photo” instead of reading an empty message.
Reads codes digit by digit One-time passcodes are spoken as individual digits
so you can actually catch them the first time.
Detects the message language Switches pronunciation automatically between languages rather than mangling one in the other's accent.
Ducks your music Lowers whatever is playing while it speaks and puts the volume back afterwards.
Silent when you are busy Stays quiet during phone calls
and by default only speaks when the screen is off so it never talks over you while you are using the phone.
Quick Settings tile Turn the whole thing on or off from the notification shade without opening the app.
Designed to sip battery It never polls: the system wakes it only when a notification actually arrives. The speech engine is created on demand and released shortly after
and the CPU is held awake only while a sentence is being spoken.
Backup and restore Export every setting and filter to a file and import it on another device.
Nothing leaves your phone Notifications are read out on the device and immediately discarded. There is no account
no server
no cloud sync and no analytics — the app cannot send your messages anywhere because it never talks to the internet at all.
